Public servants forced to rescue failed private
prison
The Public Service Association (PSA) says no
more public money should be wasted on Serco following the
announcement that they will no longer be trusted to
administer their own prison.
The PSA is New Zealand’s
largest union in corrections, representing 3000 staff at the
Department of Corrections and 100 at Serco’s two private
prisons.
Erin Polaczuk, PSA national secretary, said "The
Government is trusting public servants to come to the rescue
of this failed private prison," "Serco have completely
failed and their contract must be cancelled with immediate
effect.
"This litany of failures cannot be allowed to go
unpunished, so Serco must be dumped and significant fines
levied.
"Mt Eden must be brought back under public
control, and the Government must commit to no more private
prison experiments.
"New Zealanders will not accept
private companies profiting further from people’s misery,"
said Erin
Polaczuk.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
