We need to stop discriminating against each other
If we expect pakeha to learn, we need to stop
discriminating against each other first
Creative artist Mika & former politician Georgina Beyer have teamed up tomorrow evening to take part in a panel discussion at the Talk Treaty Exhibition launch in Auckland City being hosted by Dr Gareth Morgan on behalf of the Morgan Foundation.
Talk Treaty is an exhibition of wellknown
New Zealanders talking candidly about the Treaty of Waitangi
and how Maori and Pakeha work together.
Both Mika and Georgina were interviewed for the project along with numerous other maori and non maori interviewee’s.
In both of their interviews they highlight a broad range of issues and topics which relate to them as maori living in New Zealand.
Some of the views expressed through the interviews cover the following:
Discrimination of maori towards other maori. Maori needing to work collaboratively to embrace all maori to effectively move into the future.
The discrimination experienced of being successful urban and maori who do not have the reo and what cultural identity means to them.
The colourful pair will tee of
tommorow evening in a quickfire discussion about these
issues and what they think the future holds for urban maori
in 2015.
Excerpts from interview:
“And I think sometimes Maoridom needs to be poked, because they do a lot of poking the other way” Georgina Beyer
“And that is what annoys most of us” Mika referring to maori who claim to know everything there is to know about maori.
