NZ’s most vulnerable children deserve transparency from Minister Tolley

The Public Service Association (PSA) says Anne Tolley must engage in transparent public discussion about her plans to change Child, Youth and Family (CYF) following her receipt of a high level business case from the Expert Advisory Panel.

Erin Polaczuk, PSA national secretary, said "Children in CYF care are too important to have their futures decided behind closed doors,"

"Amy Adams’ discussion paper on domestic violence has set a standard for transparency and Anne Tolley should follow her colleague’s example.

"The role that CYF staff play in helping to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our most vulnerable children is crucial.

"Public input from experts, including CYF staff and their union, will be vital to ensure this review does not put children at risk.

"New Zealanders will also want assurance that vital services will not be

contracted out to failed corporate providers like Serco.

"We urge the Minister to use the business case as a base to spark wider discussion on the issues," said Erin Polaczuk.
