Response to Police Statement Regarding 3D Investigates Revelations About Malcolm Rewa

TV3 says it is happy to cooperate with the police over new information revealed on 3D Investigates last night regarding serial rapist Malcolm Rewa.

The investigative reporting series broadcast new information from two witnesses.

One witness claims to have seen prime suspect Malcolm Rewa in Susan Burdett’s street on the night of the murder, on his own. It is the first time there has been an eyewitness placing Rewa in the vicinity of the crime.

The other, a member of Rewa’s family, says a bat found on Susan’s bed belonged to Rewa.

A police statement in response to the programme invited TV3 to submit any relevant information to Police for assessment.

3D Investigates Executive Producer Terence Taylor said that offer had already been made in advance of the programme’s broadcast, but police hadn’t taken it up.

“We told the police in early August that we were planning to broadcast a story including information pointing to Malcolm Rewa’s involvement in the murder of Susan Burdett. The police declined to be interviewed and showed no interest in ascertaining what that information was.”
