Taungapeau elected Ngai Tāwake Hapū Kaikōrero representative

Adrianne Taungapeau elected Ngai Tāwake Hapū Kaikōrero representative

Adrianne Taungapeau has been elected Hapū Kaikōrero representative for Ngai Tāwake hapū following the withdrawal of the only other candidate, Raniera Tau.

This follows a four-week election process, which ended at noon on Friday 28 August 2015.

Electionz.com Independent Returning Officer, Warwick Lampp, said the withdrawal of Mr Tau meant Adrianne Taungapeau is elected uncontested as the representative for Ngai Tāwake hapū.

This election brings to a close the second round of Tūhoronuku Independent Mandated Authority (Tūhoronuku IMA) Hapū Kaikōrero nominations and elections, although there is a process for hapū to join Tūhoronuku IMA outside of the election cycle.

Hapū Kaikōrero represent the hapū of Ngāpuhi, who are the foundation of the Tūhoronuku structure. The outcome of this election round means there are now sixty-nine (69) Hapū Kaikōrero on board the Tūhoronuku waka, an almost 50 percent increase in the past two months. This means significantly wider reach across Ngāpuhi.

Said Tūhoronuku IMA Deputy Chairman, Moana Tuwhare: “Tūhoronuku IMA wish to congratulate Adrianne and all the new Hapū Kaikōrero and look forward to their contribution on our historic and exciting journey to settlement.

The Ngāpuhi settlement is on track, with negotiators and Hapū Kaikōrero working closely together as we develop our historical Ngāpuhi redress package. Together, as Ngāpuhi, we will achieve extraordinary outcomes for our whānau, hapū and iwi.”

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
