New Zealand must speak out for justice at the
Security Council
Palestine has joined the
International Criminal Court and provided it with
comprehensive evidence of the crimes committed by Israel
against the people of Palestine. Israel is striving to erase
Palestinian history with actions aimed atturning Jerusalem
into an exclusively Jewish city. With the present round of
Israeli Al-Aqsa Mosque violations, the worst since 1969
according to the head of the Heritage and Manuscripts
Department of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound, the PLO Executive
Committee intends to refer Israeli attacks against Jerusalem
and its Holy Sites to the Security Council. The right of
return of Palestinian refugees is enshrined in UN
Resolutions; this September's thirty-third anniversary of
the Sabra and Shatila massacre is a fitting time to remind
our leaders of the duty to raise New Zealand's voice at the
Security Council on their behalf.
