In-House 'Experts' Cost Taxpayers $75K


MONDAY 19 OCTOBER 2015

Responding to the report that taxpayers are now the not-so-proud owners of a $75,000 painting thanks to Alexander Turnbull Library, despite an expert pointing out it was a fake, Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:

“This should be the last time the Library back their own ‘expertise’ over those warning it that the painting is a worthless fake. Officials should be ensuring that they are sure it is a genuine article, not selling hard working taxpayers down the river.”

“Mr Szekely’s comments that the decision to purchase wasn’t rushed isn’t reassuring. It suggests that his staff lack the necessary skills to be procuring our national heritage using the taxpayer chequebook."
