MBIE staff vote for industrial action in protest against poor workplace culture

More than 1000 Public Service Association (PSA) members working at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) will take industrial action, including strikes, in protest of a culture of mistrust at the super-ministry.

The PSA represents over 1000 people working for MBIE across New Zealand.

Erin Polaczuk, PSA national secretary, said "These people help keep to set the standard for all New Zealand workers, but face unfair bosses who won’t take them seriously in their own workplace."

"PSA members overwhelmingly voted to take industrial action - something they don’t do lightly - because MBIE bosses have made it clear they don’t want to listen.

"MBIE have offered 0% pay movement across the board, and won’t take any action to fix a poor workplace culture that is hurting morale.

"MBIE won’t even release information to their workers about how they are paid, making negotiations much harder.

"MBIE workers want to be able to go home at the end of the day proud of what they’ve achieved, but their bosses are making that harder every day," said Erin Polaczuk.
