MBIE Innovating Again - This Time It's Expensive Sheep

MBIE INNOVATING AGAIN - THIS TIME IT'S EXPENSIVE SHEEP

MONDAY 26 OCTOBER 2015

The Taxpayers’ Union is calling on Steven Joyce to do something, anything, to hold those at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to account for wasting taxpayers money.

The call comes after tonight’s revelation on One News that MBIE hired two blow-up sheep for $170 as props at a staff party, however the bill rose to $745 to cover repairs to the sheep after they were damaged.

Ben Craven, a Taxpayers’ Union spokesman, says:

“In June the Taxpayers’ Union awarded a tongue in cheek Certificate of Achievement to MBIE for wasting taxpayers’ money. That related to the Ministry's $67,339 sign, the $140,474 television, the $5,480 on a consultant to advise on office art, and that was before we knew of the hair straighteners.”

“Any doubt that Mr Joyce is failing to control his Ministry has evaporated. Instead of holding senior officials to account for the culture of waste at MBIE, Mr Joyce is allowing them to continue to fleece taxpayers.”
