Hearing to begin on Navigation Safety Bylaws
A hearing on proposed amendments to the Southland Regional Council Navigation Safety Bylaws and a proposed plan change to the Coastal Plan is being held today (Thursday 12 November).
Submitters will take the opportunity to speak to the hearing panel about their submissions on the changes.
Environment Southland Harbourmaster Kevin O’Sullivan says the Navigation Safety Bylaws are due for review. The review has identified a number of changes that need to be made.
The major change to the local bylaws is around recreational activity zones on the Lower Oreti River, which are being clearly defined by markers and signage.
In conjunction with the Bylaw changes, a change to the Regional Coastal Plan for Southland 2013 was notified. The minor updates are necessary to remove the duplication of provisions which are hoped to be provided for in the Navigation Safety Bylaws.
The hearing for the Navigational safety Bylaw will begin at 9am in the Council Chamber at Environment Southland, with Councillor Neville Cook to chair the hearing panel.
