Responding to the release of the report
of the Chief Ombudsman into government agencies’
compliance with the Official Information Act,
Taxpayers’ Union Spokesman, Ben
Craven, says: “Over recent years the
performance of the Ombudsman’s Office has been a running
joke in Wellington political circles. This report is the
work of an Ombudsman who has looked everywhere else for the
problem without taking the time to look in the
mirror.”
"The report speaks of changing the culture of
compliance. The best way to do that would be to have an
Ombudsman doing her job."
"To return New Zealand to
having a world class freedom of information regime, we need
an Ombudsman who doesn’t pull punches. Instead this report
recommends even more policy, bureaucracy and waffle."
