WW1 commemoration ceremony

NZ and Australian parliamentary staff hold WW1 commemoration ceremony

On 20 January, a World War One commemoration ceremony is being held by parliamentary staff from New Zealand and Australia.

In association with the New Zealand Defence Force, the wreath laying ceremony remembers the people from the New Zealand and Australian parliaments that served in World War One.

The 30 minute ceremony will start at 8.45am outside the Wellington Cenotaph. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

The ceremony is part of a three day long conference for the Australian and New Zealand Clerks-at-the-Table (ANZACATT). The conference involves parliamentary staff from the New Zealand and Australian Parliaments, including the parliaments of the Australian states and territories.

David Wilson, Clerk of the House for the New Zealand Parliament and President of ANZACATT says that, “During WW1 people from all walks of life, including those who worked in the Australian and New Zealand parliaments, enlisted to serve their country.”

“We’re fortunate to have an opportunity like ANZACATT where parliamentary staff from both sides of the Tasman can remember how our past colleagues served.”

The wreath will be laid by David Wilson and Andrew Young, Clerk of the Legislative Council at the Parliament of Victoria.
