Mike Lee Motion Heralds Win for Taxpayers' Union

The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming a notice of motion by Auckland Councillor, Mike Lee, that would terminate Auckland Council’s membership of the New Zealand Property Council. Taxpayers’ Union spokesman, Ben Craven, says:

“Back in 2014, we published a report calling on Auckland Council to stop funding lobby groups to be their sock-puppets. Auckland ratepayers will be delighted that a Councillor is shining a light on this.”

“Rates shouldn't be misused by the Council to financially influence business lobby groups. It undermines democracy and blunts the essential safeguard of having these groups hold the Council to account."
