More Spin, Less Services From Wellington
More Spin, Less Services From Wellington
The Taxpayers’ Union is calling the Government to commit to cuts in the amount of taxpayer money spent on public relations and communications. Responding to the news that spending has increased by $6 million in the past four years, Ben Craven, a spokesman for the Taxpayers' Union, says:
“Every dollar spent on spin doctors in Wellington is one less for health, education, and other front line services. Instead of battling political opponents and trying to paper over efforts to promote transparency in government, many of Wellington’s communications departments should be scrapped.”
“We’re calling on the Government to reduce the amount Government departments are allowed to waste on spin doctors in May’s budget. At the very least this rampant growth should be halted.”
