Holidays Act can be improved

BusinessNZ says the Holidays Act can be improved to reduce the confusion around holiday pay.

Chief Executive Kirk Hope says irregular working hours in many industries mean calculating holiday pay is not always straightforward, but it could be made simpler with improvements to the Act.

“An effective improvement would be to change the unit of calculation of holiday pay to ‘hours worked’, since employment patterns these days are so flexible that there is no consistent definition of a ‘working week’ or a ‘work day’.

“Business would welcome the opportunity to work with Government and other interested parties on improving the Holidays Act.”
