MOKO: 'There's got to be a price for a child' - nationwide marches planned for Moko

10th May 2016

The Sensible Sentencing Trust says the response to their planned nationwide marches for Moko has been phenomenal.

Marches are planned in every region where the High Court sits, “because the Court House is a recognised symbol of Justice and as such they have a responsibility to ensure that justice is dispensed fairly and impartially.”

“The thugs who killed Moko tortured him horrendously and deliberately over a lengthy period of time. To allow what is, in my opinion – and that of experienced defence barristers - an intentional killing to be downgraded from murder to manslaughter is an absolute insult, and goes to very heart of the integrity of the Justice System.”

“The Courts are the gate keepers for society. Judges are our representatives. A dysfunctional Court system equates to a dysfunctional society, and that in a nutshell is why we are targeting the Courts. The decision to allow Moko’s killers to plead guilty to manslaughter has set a precedent and grossly reduced the penalty for taking the life of an innocent child.”

Sensible Sentencing is calling for people interested in being coordinators for protests in their particular region at 9am on Sentencing Day, 27 June, to make contact via theJustice for Moko Facebook or email sstvictims@sst.org.nz
