CIGA programme and the GPG’s work with government agencies

CIGA programme and the GPG’s work with government agencies

The Retail Anchor project is an integral part of the plan to bring Christchurch back to prosperity. Each of the four buildings leased by Crown agencies will have retail space on the ground floor. By committing to long-term leases, developers are guaranteed future rental allowing this revitalisation to take place.

The Christchurch Integrated Government Accommodation (CIGA) programme is helping support the people of Christchurch by moving more than 1500 government workers into the CBD.

The actual costs for the programme can only be determined when it has been completed. A recent media report estimating what a full standard office fit-out should cost per square metre is incorrect.

Alan McMahon, national director, research & consulting at Colliers, has confirmed a suggested range for a total tenant fit-out is $1090 to $1650 per sq m, which aligns with estimates used by government agencies.

Budget estimates for agency fit-outs are based on rates as qualified by quantity surveyors.

Government Property Group is working with government agencies to better manage the Crown’s Estate by improving effectiveness and efficiency of the Government’s office accommodation. Since GPG’s inception in 2011, this approach has resulted in a $132 million reduction in rental and associated costs and a total reduction to 152,293 sq m across the Crown estate.

Agencies continue to manage their own properties and GPG provides clear frameworks for government agencies to work within to provide a consistent approach. The Government National Property Strategy and Workplace Standards and Guidelines provide agencies with clear expectations for layouts, providing the best value for money.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
