Talks begin today on key Metals Agreement
Talks begin in Auckland today on renewing the Metal and Manufacturing Industries Collective Agreement.
The Agreement, or Metals as it is known, is E tū’s oldest and biggest manufacturing industry agreement and covers more than 600 workers across more than 80 employers.
The agreement has long set the pace for other pay deals in manufacturing, as well as other industries and unions.
E tū representatives and manufacturing employers will meet for two days, following mass meetings of members last month in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
The Industry Co-ordinator for Manufacturing, Anita Rosentreter says the union is after a “fair and reasonable pay increase”.
She says the union will also present health and safety claims including a boost to worker representation in health and safety.
“Manufacturing is a high-risk industry”, says Ms Rosentreter.
“Research, including the findings of the Royal Commission into the Pike River Mine Tragedy, has shown that worker representation is crucial in fostering a safe workplace.”
