E tū extends condolences after Waihi mining fatality
The mining union, E tū has extended its
condolences to the family of the young miner who died while
working in the Correnso mine in Waihi.
It has also expressed its support and condolences to the man’s workmates and the Waihi community.
E tū’s Organiser, Myles Leeson is at the site and says it’s too early to speculate on the circumstances of the accident which claimed the man’s life.
But he says he’s confident Worksafe and the company will investigate thoroughly and find out what caused this tragic and untimely death.
“We’re waiting to learn more as the investigation gives us a clearer idea of what happened”, says Myles.
He says in the meantime, E tū is offering support to the man’s family and workmates.
“The mining community is close-knit and in many respects like a family”, says Myles.
“There will be grief and shock over what’s happened, and we want to ensure people are well-supported”, he says.
