Household Labour Force Survey release delayed

Household Labour Force Survey release delayed – Media release

29 July 2016

Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS) data, which was due to be published on 3 August as part of the Labour Market Statistics: June 2016 quarter release, has been delayed for two weeks until 17 August, Statistics New Zealand said today.

The delay will give time to check the June quarter figures following the redevelopment of the HLFS earlier this year. It will also allow time to finalise the statistics and complete the quality assurance process and analysis of changes.

“Statistics NZ is committed to producing the best-quality information possible and we apologise for any inconvenience to people who use this information. We sincerely regret the delay,” labour market and household statistics senior manager Diane Ramsay said.

The labour market figures include employment and unemployment statistics.

Meanwhile, the June quarter figures for the Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) and the Labour Cost Index (LCI) will be released as planned at 10:45am on 3 August, but without the usual media lock-up before the release.

The media conference scheduled for 3 August will now take place on 17 August at Statistics House, Harbour Quays, Wellington. The conference room opens at 10am. The embargo lifts and journalists can leave at 10:45am.

Statistics NZ is committed to providing timely information. The last time a delay to a key quarterly release occurred was in 2011. The gross domestic product (GDP) release was delayed to ensure that methods for measuring GDP adequately accounted for the Canterbury earthquakes, and to get supplementary data for the quarter’s release.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
