Schools need more funding to meet needs - Labour
If the Government’s proposed funding review is about re-carving the existing pie then that’s where the problem starts to emerge says Labour’s education spokesperson Chris Hipkins.
Speaking on TV One’s Q+A programme Mr Hipkins told political editor Corin Dann that schools are just not getting enough funding to meet the needs.
“More money is required. If you’ve got the same size pie but more people eating from that pie, then they’re going to end up less satisfied,” he says.
When asked what has Labour got? If you’re not going to do the per-student funding, what have you got to put up on the table?
Mr Hipkins responded by saying “the very first thing we need to do is look at the quantum of funding that schools require. And in real terms, when you look at it on a per-student basis, their funding’s been going backwards.”
