A Regional Voice of Support

A Regional Voice of Support

Hāpai Te Hauora are proud to support the first-ever Gamble Harm Awareness Week and a national focus on whānau as the key ingredient to reducing gambling related harm.

Anthony Hawke, General Manager for Hāpai Gambling Harm Prevention says “we were encouraged to hear the focus of this year’s gamble harm awareness week, it has been a strong theme carried across all our work delivered here in Auckland.”

Hāpai has been receiving video messages from community groups over the past few months. “They offer a whānau view on how we support those experiencing gambling related harm, well wishes and calls to remain strong for your whānau” says Anthony.

A selection of the videos will be released over Gamble Harm Awareness Week and also the weeks following. “It’s the families and friends of gamblers who feel the harm the most, so it makes sense we also acknowledge and support this wider group and empower them to be involved in making a change.” says Anthony.
Dawn Hawke, Hāpai kaumātua says “it’s so great to be involved in a kaupapa that isn’t about telling people they got a problem but giving awhi and finding answers among whānau”.

The Otara Gamblefree Day held at Otara Town Centre on the 8th September 2016 will be another event that Hāpai support to spread the whānau first message in conjunction with the regions other Gambling harm prevention providers.
