Little gets Sensible says Sentencing Trust

The Sensible Sentencing Trust has congratulated Labour Leader Andrew Little for his call for a review of sentencing laws to ensure offenders do not get off without a conviction.

Andrew Little told the Paul Henry show that discharges without conviction had “left everybody scratching their heads”.

Little added, “When there’s violence involved, when there’s a weapon involved, when you’re attacking a police officer or other front line person, it doesn’t make sense that you kind of get off scott-free.”

SST Founder, Garth McVicar said it seems that Mr. Little had suddenly realised that if Labour ever wanted to be in Government they would need to listen to what the vast majority of voters wanted.

“People just want to be safe, in their communities, on the streets and in their homes and it would appear the Leader of the Labour Party is finally listening to the people.”

McVicar said, “Public safety must always be the paramount purpose of all law and order and sentencing legislation, SST has no hesitation in congratulating Andrew Little, or any other politician, who advocates for public safety.”
