National candidate selection for Mt Roskill by-election

National to open candidate selection for Mt Roskill by-election

The National Party will open nominations to select its candidate for the upcoming Mt Roskill by-election next week.

“I understand Mr Goff intends to resign on Tuesday or Wednesday" says National Party President Peter Goodfellow.

"National will run a shortened but robust selection process for the by-election"
"We will open nominations to select our candidate on 12 October with final candidate selection on 19 October.”

Mr Goodfellow said it will be very difficult for National to win the by-election as no Government has ever won a by-election off the Opposition.
"And of course Labour and the Greens have done a deal for the seat to try and make it even less likely," says Mr Goodfellow.

"We will however run a strong campaign. Labour has held Mt Roskill since it was created in 1999 and tends to take the electorate a bit for granted."

“The National-led Government has worked hard to deliver more for Mt Roskill families, and our List MP Parmjeet Parmar has advocated strongly for the people of Mt Roskill over the last two years.

“We’ll campaign on the Government's strong record and give the people of Mt Roskill a real choice,” says Mr Goodfellow.
