Healthy Surplus Should Be Returned to Kiwis Who Earned It
Healthy Surplus Should Be Returned to Kiwis Who Earned It
13 OCTOBER 2016
The Taxpayers’ Union is
welcoming today’s surplus of $1.8 billion shown in the
Crown accounts for 2015/16, and is calling on the Government
to signal meaningful tax cuts in next year’s budget so
that households, and not politicians, spend what Kiwi’s
have worked so hard for. Taxpayers’ Union Executive
Director, Jordan Williams, says:
“Due to fiscal drag, most New Zealanders are paying a higher proportion of their income in tax than when John Key became Prime Minister in 2008. Now is the time to reduce that burden, and give households meaningful tax relief.”
“If the Government can’t deliver tax relief in next year’s Budget, then it is doubtful that this Government ever will.”
“Tax cuts planned for 2017 were cancelled by Bill English last year. Today’s figures show that there is plenty of money in the kitty for tax relief for every New Zealander.”
