The Wind of Change

Press Release

The Wind of Change

Love him or hate him Prime Minister John Key’s resignation came as a big surprise to everyone yesterday and has opened the door to speculation as to who will step into his role as Prime Minister. Whoever is chosen they will have a hard act to follow, his popularity was virtually unchanged as preferred Prime Minister for the whole time he held office.

This change in leadership of the National Party shows the need for change or as John Key said the need to refresh, was this a hint of what is to come in next year’s General Election? New Zealanders need to refresh their thinking and instigate the political change necessary to move forward in the years to come.

There are numerous unresolved issues demanding attention that have been ignored by the National Government (and previous Governments) but these are the issues that are the driving force for change. The wind of change has arrived in New Zealand with voters fed up with the same old rhetoric from the established political parties.

Each General Election our political candidates make promises in order to get elected, that and these promises are seldom kept. Once elected they have little or no accountability to those who elected them.

Democracy is supposedly the corner stone of our society and it has been sadly absent for many years in New Zealand. Successive Governments have not listened to the people and have carried out their own agendas ignoring referendums and recommendations from their own select committees.

These actions must be changed and our politicians made more accountable for their actions. All Governments are elected by the people and the NZSP believe it is the people that should be listened to.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
