Backing the Bay: Christmas 2016
Backing the Bay
Hon Craig Foss, MP for
Tukituki
Thank you Hawke’s Bay
After much thought, I have decided to step down at the next election. I did a personal, family and professional stocktake and decided that, on balance, that this term would be my last. It was a very tough decision. There was no one event that forced my hand, rather my scales tipped away from parliament and towards my family.
Thank you so much to everyone who has assisted us, over so many years, ensuring we are so strong across Tukituki.
Tukituki and all of Hawke’s Bay are strongly supporting National. Our economy is rocking ahead. Job growth, confidence, real estate, and retail sales are all moving ahead. Hardly a week goes by without another new positive announcement, such as Xero moving an office to Hawke’s Bay.
Our new Prime Minister Bill English has a stunning track record of managing our economy from deficit, through global financial crisis, earthquakes into surplus and growth. Former Prime Minister John Key enjoyed coming to the Bay, and one of his last official duties, was attending and supporting the Cranford Wine Auction.
Congratulations
I extend my congratulations to our new Prime Minister, Rt Hon Bill English. He becomes New Zealand’s 39th Prime Minister. With his new Deputy Prime Minister Paula Bennett, they will make a formidable team as they lead the country into a 4th term National Led Government.
The priorities remain the same as they have in the past. This is because this is what is important to New Zealanders. Infrastructure will be a priority, with the government continuing to invest in roading, public transport, schools, and housing. These will continue to help support a strong economy for a growing population.
Farewell and Thanks
We have been very lucky in the Bay to have had many visits by our now ex PM, John Key. Many of you have had the opportunity to have met him.
A lot of local schools have hosted JK. And many selfies have been taken with him!
John Key has always loved his visits to Hawke’s Bay, mainly because he has been made to feel so welcome.
Thanks to each and every one of you for ensuring the Bay remains one of his favourite regions!
Go well John Key; it has been a privilege being part of a Government you had so successfully led.
Christmas 2016
I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas. I urge you all to take care on the roads, be vigilant by the water and in the water.
Have great fun enjoy family and friends, have a beer or two, enjoy a BBQ or two and generally have a relaxing holiday.
Cheers,
Hon Craig
