Former Mayor’s Request for Ratepayer Funded Tattoo
Perplexing

JANUARY 2017 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The
Taxpayers’ Union is applauding Wellington City
Council’s refusal to grant an unusual request by former
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown for a ratepayer funded
tattoo as her departure gift as Mayor of the
City.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive
Director Jordan Williams says, “We operate a tip-line for insiders and members of the
public to report government waste. We found it difficult to
believe that an elected official would ask for a tattoo,
which we understand was to be on the former Mayor’s
ankle.”
“Ratepayer-funded body-art is perhaps
the most unusual spending request we have ever come across.
Well done to the person in the Council who had the nous to
say no!"
