Ministry of Justice Bosses Using ‘Privacy’ to Hide Embarrassment of $23k Lip-Syncing Video
1 FEBRUARY 2017
The Ministry of Justice's decision to spend $23,000 on a video for staff to
lip-sync a Justin Timberlake song is reason enough to
override any privacy concerns the Ministry’s bosses are
now hiding behind in refusing to release the video under
freedom of information laws, says the Taxpayers’
Union.
“Taxpayers paid for the video, they should be able to see it," says Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers' Union. "The Ministry reports that they need to protect the privacy of their staff, including the Cheif Executive, who was reportedly seen dancing at his desk in the music video."
"While they don't want taxpayers to see it, they were quite happy for the video to be shown off to staff within the Ministry. The only ‘privacy’ the officials are protecting is the embarrassment of wasting $23k on a shoddy Justin Timberlake impersonation.”
“Unless the Ministry stand up for transparency, what credibility can they have expecting it from other government departments?”
