National Congratulated on Police Announcement – BUT with Conditions – SST

3rd February2017
“Failing that we may as well just kiss the $503 million goodbye.” McVicar

The Sensible Sentencing Trust [SST] says the $503 million crime-fighting package announced by Bill English is a step in the right direction and has congratulated the National Party but the pat-on-the-back comes with strict conditions.

The SST was formed in 2001 by Garth and Anne McVicar as a justice reform organisation and to give Victims of crime a voice in the justice system. When launching the SST McVicar said he was horrified by what he described as the evolution of a criminal centred offender friendly legal system that in his opinion had contributed significantly to the increase in crime and murders.

“I said at the time that New Zealand was harvesting the crop from seeds that were sown years before, as a farmer we know if we don’t look after the land and environment we rely on we will pay the price. Our Country is no different, if we don’t nurture the values that created a safe New Zealand we will pay the ultimate price.”

“That day has arrived and the fact that New Zealand First, Labour and now National have all promised big increases in Police numbers and over-all crime-fighting budget is conclusive evidence that my fears have come fruition.”

“Judith Collins recognised this back in October when she said there was big shortage of police and the numbers would have to significantly increase. We thank Minister Collins for the hard work she did to ensure yesterday’s announcement would come to realization.”

McVicar said the extra $503 million and 1125 additional police will go a long way towards combating crime but unless there was a complete rethink and clean out of the politically correct ideology that had exasperated the problem the money would in fact be just tipped down the drain.

“Successive Governments over recent years have been manipulated by a liberal lunacy movement that has progressively destroyed many of the values that made New Zealand a very safe and vibrant nation.”

“If we are ever to achieve that safe and vibrant status again we will need some very robust fearless policies with a focus on rebuilding storng law-abiding families to go hand-in-hand with the $503 million crime fighting announcement.”
