FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In reaction to the $81,000 Trump party thrown by MFAT, Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union says:
“Here we have yet another display of extravagance from MFAT using the taxpayers’ wallet. The fact that the attendees to the party had little professional association to trade or diplomacy shows that it was nothing more than a taxpayer-funded bash for friends of MFAT's DC-based diplomats. It was an excuse for a taxpayer funded wing-ding.”
“Our taxpayer advocacy friends based in DC attended an array of parties to celebrate Mr Trump’s inauguration, and tell us that New Zealand’s function wasn’t even on the radar. It appears to be nothing more than a $81,000 get-together for D-list celebrities and friends of Mr Grocer’s. Where’s the value to taxpayers in that?”
“MFAT needs a stern reminding that every cent of that $81,000 was the result of a hard working taxpayer. This sort of waste is a slap in the face to those who earned it and is a disgrace.”
