Acting Chief Executive appointed to Nelson City Council

15 June 2017

Nelson City Council has appointed an Acting Chief Executive on a temporary basis to guide the organisation while the recruitment process for a new Chief Executive takes place over the coming months. Mr David Hammond will step into the role on 26 June 2017 to assist with the smooth running of the Council in what is a busy Long Term Plan preparation year.

Mayor Rachel Reese, in confirming the appointment, says “David has a wealth of experience in local government, previously being the Chief Executive of both Ruapehu District Council and then Thames Coromandel District Council. More recently his consultancy work has brought him to Nelson to help us develop our Freedom Camping Bylaw.

“David has the right blend of skills and experience to help lead Nelson City Council through until a new Chief Executive has been appointed. David has a highly collaborative style and I know he is keen to support our staff and work with the Nelson community during his time with us."

Mr Hammond was looking forward to commencing the role and said, “Nelson City is making a statement nationally as the place to live, work and play. I’m looking forward to working with a great group of passionate people in and around council to bring my experience and strengths to the organisation.”

Recruitment firm Ichor has been appointed to undertake the recruitment for the Chief Executive role which will be announced later in 2017.

ENDS.
