Turei got $57,096 telling porkies. Porky says ‘pay it back’

Turei got $57,096 telling porkies. Porky says ‘pay it back’.

17 JULY 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“The public feedback is clear – Metiria Turei must pay back the money she stole from taxpayers, before she can have any credibility as a Member of Parliament,” says Jordan Williams, the Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director.
The Union’s mascot, Porky, will be delivering the very large invoice on behalf of all the taxpayers and beneficiaries who follow the law and miss out as a result of the fraud.
“The weekly payment of the Domestic Purposes Benefit in 1993, converted to today’s dollars, is approximately $366. Ms Turia mentioned in the media her fraud lasted three years, that’s at least $57,096 she owes taxpayers.”
“Ms Turei is in the top one percent of income earners and has been for many years. She should pay the full amount back regardless of whether she is charged for breaking the law.”
