Government support partner Peter Dunne appears to be
abandoning the Government‘s commitment to fiscal prudence
– offering some $4.76 billion of election bribes,
according to the Taxpayers’ Union election policy
costing ‘Bribe-O-Meter’.
“Unfortunately,
Peter Dunne appears to be taking the approach National took
in Northland throwing money around to try and retain a
seat,” says Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the
Taxpayers Union.
“Mr Dunne’s promise of a
Waterview-style road tunnel North of Wellington is likely to
cost $2.7 billion alone, according to our economic advisors.
Spread across the dwellings in Dunne’s Ōhariu electorate
– the policy would cost a massive $124,550 per local
household.”
“If that’s not pork-barrel
politics, I don’t know what
is.”
