Duncan Garner, Patrick Gower And Lisa Owen to Front Newshub Coverage for #Decision17

Duncan Garner will be hosting Three’s election night special from 7:00pm on September 23rd, 2017. With close to 20 years press gallery experience and host of The AM Show, Garner will be joined by Newshub Political Editor Patrick Gower and The Nation host, Lisa Owen.

Garner said: “It's become pretty clear in the past two weeks that it's game on. New Zealanders have a stark choice in front of them. Politics is such a fluid game, change is the only constant - this makes it exciting but uncertain.”

“In the past, Three's election night special has been fast, furious, fun and first; first to the big interviews, first to call it. I'm keen to build on that. We'll have a lively and seriously informed panel. I'm also teaming back up with Paddy and he refuses to wear a short leash - so anything can happen. Make a night of it, grab the popcorn, there's too much at stake to miss this.”

Gower added: “New Zealand politics has had a bit of a roller-coaster feel to it with the recent leadership changes and shifts in polling that shows this election is a genuine contest. It is obvious to everyone that there is a very volatile political environment out there - but now is the time to focus on policies and the things that matter to New Zealanders.”

Owen said: “So far in this campaign, there has been more plot twists and untimely exits than a Hitchcock thriller. How could you resist tuning in for the final chapter? The great thing about elections is that you have the power to influence how the story ends, and this will be down to the wire. I can’t wait.”

In the build-up to what is expected to be the most hotly contested election in 10 years, Three will also be hosting a live leaders debate from 8:30pm on September 4th. Hosted by Gower, the televised debate will see Jacinda Ardern and Bill English go head-to-head in front of a live audience of undecided voters at the BNZ Theatre, Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau.

Gower said: “My job at the debate is actually quite simple; I’m there to keep it straight and hold the line.”
