Rugby recommendations provide clear pathway forward

Rugby recommendations provide clear pathway forward

The Human Rights Commission is pleased to see the Respect and Responsibility review recommendations released today by the Independent Panel, but says the onus is now on NZ Rugby to take concrete steps to implement them.

Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner Dr Jackie Blue, who called for changes to be made within NZ Rugby following several incidents of player misconduct last year, says the recommendations provide a clear pathway forward.

“Enlisting the services of an independent panel to carry out this review was a good move by NZ Rugby and we believe the recommendations within the report are constructive and provide clear areas for action and improvement.

“NZ Rugby needs to show New Zealanders that they are determined to bring back mana and respect to the game. The best and only way to do this is by implementing these recommendations and achieving clear targets and goals.

“We, like the thousands of Kiwis who signed our Love Rugby Respect Women open letter, hope that this review signals a step change for NZ Rugby and will keenly watch as they implement these recommendations.”
