On-Line Petition from NZ First nothing but a ploy!

On-Line Petition from NZ First nothing but a ploy!

Today I received an email from Winston Peters asking me to fill in an online petition calling for the abolishment of Section 70. This is the Act whereby the NZ Government confiscate overseas retirement savings/pensions stating that ordinary New Zealanders would be disadvantaged if those affected were allowed both NS Super and their overseas self-funded pensions.

On the New Zealand First website Mr Peters states they will:

• Abolish Section 70 of the Social Security Act 1964 ensuring all NZS applicants will retain their overseas pensions without any deduction from their NZS or from their spouse’s NZS.

• End the labyrinth of bureaucratic complexities and unfairness caused by existing reciprocal pension agreements with other countries. Overseas pensions are no business of the New Zealand Government.

NZ First have stated that if “Winston is in a Kingmaker position after 23 Sept, the numbers on this online petition is the only indication of support for Abolishing Section 70 to be included in NZ First bottom lines”. Is this a veiled threat that if we (those affected) don’t sign then NZ First will not make it a priority?

Mr Peters vowed on both his website and at public meetings to abolish Section 70, but now NZ First seem to be using this petition as an excuse to go back on their promises.

This petition is only a ploy to collect the names and email addresses of those affected by Section 70 and to authorise NZ First to send out election information, put simply this is underhanded politics.
