Questions to answer over PM’s recruitment choice

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Taxpayers deserve an assurance that the Prime Minister’s Office followed all appropriate steps in appointing a recruitment agency linked to the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff to recruit the replacement to the Prime Minister’s Chief Press Secretary, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.

Responding the material published online this morning, Taxpayers’ Union spokesperson Jordan Williams says:

“While the value of the contract might not be large – probably around $50,000 – on the face of events, taxpayers need assurance that proper procedure, and tendering, was followed.”

“Prima facie, it appears very odd that a boutique recruitment agency was chosen, apparently for the first time by the PMO. If that’s the case, the onus is on the Prime Minister’s Office to produce evidence that this isn’t a case of a family connection to the Chief of Staff influencing how taxpayers’ money is spent.”
