New Zealand’s state sector employers should take inspiration from the football field and end the gender pay gap for good, the PSA says.

New Zealand Football and the New Zealand Professional Footballers’ Association say their new Collective Bargaining Agreement will ensure equity for the men’s and women’s national teams.

The men’s and women’s international teams will have pay parity, equal prize money, equal image rights and parity across travel when playing for New Zealand.

"This is great news for our Football Ferns, who are ranked in the world top 20 and have already qualified for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup," PSA National Secretary Erin Polaczuk says.

"In every respect the Ferns have proven they are worth 100%, and we are thrilled to see the governing body recognise that.

"We now call on New Zealand’s state sector agencies to do the same.

"Their collective agreements should make this firm commitment - and back it up with broadly-based benefit including family friendly policies and flexible working.

"If New Zealand football can do it, New Zealand’s public service can do it too."
