Voting early in the Northcote by-election

28 May 2018 Media releases

Advance voting starts today [28/5] in the Northcote by-election.

“If you’re enrolled in the Northcote electorate, you can vote in person at an advance voting place from today, Monday 28 May,” says Anita Balakrishnan, National Manager of Voting Services for the Electoral Commission.

“Look out for your EasyVote pack which should appear in your letter box in the next few days with all the information you need to vote,” says Ms Balakrishnan.

A list of voting places and opening hours is included in the EasyVote pack and is also available at www.elections.org.nz, or by calling freephone 0800 36 76 56.

Eight advance voting places will be open between Monday 28 May and Friday 8 June, and there will be 16 voting places available on election day which is Saturday 9 June.

Those unable to get to a voting place either during the advance voting period or on election day should contact the Returning Officer to arrange voting services. The Returning Officer can be contacted at Northcote@elections.govt.nz or on 09 419 1500.

Electoral Commission staff will also be visiting rest homes in the electorate to provide voting services to those unable to get to a voting place.

Voters enrolled in the Northcote electorate who are currently overseas, or who will be overseas on election day, can also vote. More information on overseas voting can be found at www.elections.org.nz.

“Remember, if you live in the Northcote electorate and are not yet enrolled, do it now, so you can have your say in the by-election,” says Ms Balakrishnan.

“The easiest ways to get an enrolment form are online at www.elections.org.nz, by calling 0800 36 76 56, popping into a PostShop, or texting your name and address to 3676,” says Ms Balakrishnan. “You’ll also be able to enrol at any advance voting place, and vote at the same time.”
