The New Zealand Labour Party’s General Secretary, Andrew Kirton, has today announced he is moving on from his role with the party to take up a senior position with Air New Zealand in August.

Labour Party President Nigel Haworth, said: “Andrew has been a first class General Secretary and he will be deeply missed.

“As a direct result of Andrew’s leadership and energy, the Labour Party today is stronger, more strategic, better funded and more professional.

“And we are now in Government. In 2016, Andrew took on the difficult and complex role as Campaign Manager, leading a successful, albeit extremely challenging, election campaign in 2017.

“Andrew came to me soon after the 2017 General Election and indicated that he would be looking to move back into the private sector at some point in 2018. I wish Andrew all the very best in his new role.

“Andrew will remain in post until mid August, to continue with the ongoing internal Labour Party reforms,” said Nigel Haworth.

General Secretary, Andrew Kirton said “It has been both a great honour and a humbling experience to be Labour’s General Secretary. The Party is in good health and has a great future as it continues to improve and reform. I’m also pleased to have played a role in Labour’s successful 2017 election campaign.”

“I worked for Heathrow Airport in the UK, so the opportunity to get back into the industry working for such an iconic and progressive company was too good to turn down,” said Kirton.

The Labour Party will open applications for a replacement shortly.
