Award-winning documentary In the Name of Confucius is
the first film that examines the growing global

The CI is a
Chinese language program attaching to over 1,600 foreign
universities and schools around the world. There are
17 Confucius Institutes & 97 Confucius Classrooms in
Australia and New Zealand.
However, an
increasing number of universities & school boards across
North America and Europe have cut ties with the Chinese
institutes.
In the U.S., the FBI is investigating some of the American CIs, and bipartisan lawmakers have tabled new bills to combat the Chinese government’s political influence, including Confucius Institutes.
According to The Australian, the NSW Education Department launched a review of its CI programme in May, and Minister Rob Stokes confirmed that the review could lead to the Chinese institute’s involvement in NSW schools being curbed.
Last month,
In the Name of Confucius had a
successful Australian premiere at the NSW parliament,
followed by a screening in Parliament House Canberra. This
month, there will be 6 screenings across Australia and New
Zealand, each followed by a Q&A discussion with director
Doris Liu, who will come from Canada, and other experts. You
