Gloriavale funding is par for the course under Shane Jones
Gloriavale funding is par for the course under Shane Jones

Taxpayer funding for the likes of Gloriavale is an
inevitable outcome of Shane Jones’ billion-dollar slush
fund, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.
Taxpayers’ Union spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says, “When the $3 billion slush fund was set up, it was inevitable that we would see some pretty dubious applications – and indeed that some of them would be successful.”
“Frankly, taxpayer funding for a Gloriavale health business is no more absurd than Growth Fund money already given to other projects, such as Gisborne’s ‘Chardonnay Express’ locomotive wine tour, or a new gondola for Mount Ruapehu.”
“Shane Jones will struggle to turn down Gloriavale’s application without looking like he’s just running scared for political reasons. This is the mess he got himself into when he established the fund in the first place.”
