Today’s news that three registration desks at the
Government’s Justice Summit cost more than $20,000 should
lead to a sacking, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’
Union.
Taxpayers’ Union
spokesman Louis Houlbrooke says, “In effect, four minimum
wage workers got every workday for a year to pay income tax
that was ultimately blown on three temporary tables.”
“With the summit’s total cost reaching $1.6 million,
it’s clear that the registration desk fiasco is
symptomatic of a deeper culture of largesse. The Justice
Minister needs to send a clear message to the bureaucrats
managing the Government’s countless other talkfests, and
he can do this by sacking those responsible for the
waste.”
“This would send a chill down the spine
of those with their hands on the public purse strings, as
well as delivering some rare justice for aggrieved
taxpayers.”

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
