With Wellington already in discussions to follow Auckland and introduce a regional fuel tax, local politicians need to commit to stopping the spread of tax, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says “Wellington does not need a regional fuel tax so it can fund a tram to the zoo."
"A new tax at a local level could be justified if there was a desperate need for key infrastructure, but right now it isn’t clear that revenue from a Wellington regional fuel tax would be spent wisely.”
