Taxpayers being ripped off to help subsidise doctors

Phil Twyford should not be gambling $2 billion on the housing market to help doctors meet their mortgage payments, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.

Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says “KiwBuild has become a farce. Phil Twyford is spending $2 billion to buy homes from private developers, that would have been built regardless, just so he can on-sell them at a discount to well-heeled first-home buyers, such as doctors and marketing professionals.”

“If the Government wanted to increase housing supply, it could have abolished the urban-rural boundary like Phil Twyford called for at the election. Unfortunately, the Government seems to care more about putting up taxpayers’ money to host a lottery for the upwardly-mobile.”
