Three city councillors will go up against three Members of Parliament to debate if local body politics or central government decisions have more bearing on the wellbeing of New Zealand’s capital city.

The free public event slated for 17 April, State of Affairs: A Political Debate, brings together politicians from across the political spectrum to debate the moot: “Wellington City Council is more important to Wellingtonians than central Government”.

Spearheaded by HSB Government Relations and powered by Wellington Chamber of Commerce and N5 Consulting, the evening promises a lively and informative discussion of ideas with a comedic touch.

“It will be a great opportunity to get a firsthand look at local and central government going head to head in the capital,” says Tom Peoples of HSB Government Relations.

Wellington Chamber of Commerce’s Chief Executive John Milford says, “Both sides will have to bring their A-game to this contest. It’s a good, light-hearted debate underpinning the urgent need to get Welly moving. Let’s see what the city’s representatives bring to the table.”

Similarly, John Loau of N5 Consulting, says, “This is a great way for our current and future generations to peel through the layers of both central and local government!”
