Cockies around NZ will be concerned today’s climate announcement is a warm up for the Government to introduce a fart tax 2.0, says the New Zealand Taxpayers' Union.
Taxpayers' Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says, "While the separate treatment of methane is welcome and common sense, introducing a fart tax risks choking the goose that lays the golden egg."
"If they fail to rule it out, at the very least, the Government should commit to revenue neutrality for any fart tax – including a more aggressive emissions trading scheme so the agricultural sector can have confidence that the Government isn’t lining them up as future cash cows."
