6.1 Magnitude Quake Strikes Bali - MFAT Response

The following can be attributed to a spokesperson for the Ministry:

* A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Bali yesterday and was widely felt throughout the island.

* There are reports of minor injuries, minor damage to buildings and some communication outages.

* MFAT is aware of one New Zealander who sustained minor injuries in the earthquake.

* New Zealanders in Bali are advised to contact family and friends in New Zealand to advise them of their safety and wellbeing.

* Any New Zealanders in Bali requiring consular assistance should contact the New Zealand Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia: (+62 21) 2995 5800 ext 111 or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade: (+64 04) 439 8000.
