Open letter to polititcal prisoners from la Voz del Amate

Open letter to the polititcal prisoners from la Voz del Amate

In New Zealand, we are observing with great concern the way in which Human Rights continue to deteriorate in Mexico.

We want to express our solidarity with you, the prisoners from la Voz del Amate, Solidarios de la Voz del Amate, presos de Mitzitón y Voces Inocentes, all members of The Other Campaign, who have started a hunger strike in order to obtain your freedom.

We know that you are risking your lives and health in order to obtain justice. Through this peaceful means, you oppose those in power that lock away, disappear, humiliate and kill those who are poor, different and have the necessary dignity to struggle against the exploitative system that perpetuates these conditions.

We in NZ see in your just and dignified struggle, a step towards the construction of the other world that we also need and long for, a world in which many worlds fit.

This is why we want to let you, the prisoners, and your relatives, know that you are not alone, that from the distance we walk with you and that we will remain vigilant to your struggle.

We know, for example, that the bad government is trying to intimidate you, violating your Human Rights by not allowing doctors, relatives and visitors access to the prison.

We hold the government of Chiapas, headed by Juan Sabines Guerrero - who is particularly proud of his Human Rights record - responsible for whatever may happen to the physical, mental and emotional health of you, the prisoners participating in the hunger strike, by denying you necessary medical help but especially, by unnecessarily perpetuating your imprisonment.

Wellington Zapatista Support Group
